The best breakfast diner in SF. However, don't go there on Saturdays the waitress is not customer friendly. You've been warned. 5 stars w/o the waitress. 3 stars with waitress.
Food is amazing. Flavi is very sweet and fast. Thanks for the good food .We gonna back for sure!
Great omelette👍
A living museum of 1960s century Greek American diner. Bounteous portions, suitably buttery and oily, served by the owner and cook who's been there about 40 years. Old world international style omelettes. Charming and serene with an otherworldly, monochromatic, cinematic feel. Not for numbskulls or tiny-minded whiners who want widescreen televisions covering the walls while they stare at their phones.
Interesting place for sure. When I arrived there was just one old cook, an older waitress, and the bus boy guy. Has the old dinner feel, smell and all. Took awhile to get my order in (the waitress was busy) but she was very apologetic. Sweetly Stated I probably hated her at that point which I laughed off. Ordered the smoked chicken sausage with artichoke hearts and feta cheese. The waitress explains each order to the old cook which is quite comical. When it arrived it looked rather plain but was quite good. $10 which for the area is reasonable. There was plenty of seating available. I stopped by another nearby cafe that is popular but it was completely packed.. I recommend this spot if you're looking for a cheap good breakfast in the area. Seems like a locals spot.
Great little place. Good cheap food.a little old and rundown, but the service was great and the food was good. I ordered french toast, eggs, and sausage--a little on the greasy side but I really enjoyed it. My girlfriend ordered an omelette and thought it was too greasy for her taste, although I thought it was good as well.
Decent simple food. Sign says cash only. Biscuits and gravy had a gravy that tasted like smoke. Not quite sure how they achieved that.
Not really impressed. Decent food if you're in a bind. Decor needs an update. King Louie is the owner and brings family favorites to the menu
Be sure and bring CASH! still quaint little breakfast spot. Coffee was not that great tho. Still good spot to eat for old school diner food
The chorizo scramble was so good! Super Nice staff as well.
Went there for breakfaat the morning after we arrived in SF. Just after we sat down and about to order, we were asked to leave as health inspectors had turned up and closed the place down. See that it is still closed and they obviously have some work to do. Looks like we dodged a bullet that mornning!
Well, very dirty!!!(kitchen) I don't know how this place is still open. The only thing I wanted when I was there is to take a huge bottle of Chlorox and give it a nice scrub. The management of this place is left to be desired.
Olympic Cafe is a great place for TenderNob residents to enjoy a decent meal. Thanks to new ownership and modernization, it's perfect for delicious food, 7am to 2pm.
New look, new menu, new management. Everyone very friendly, food good. My scrambled eggs were perfect and nice and fluffy. Bonus, they now take credit cards.
Like old skool greasy spoons? You'll love it here. Good prices, large portions and near the tenderloin so you can easily recoup your DOC
Same name, new look, new staff, new menu. The staff are friendly, attentive and on point. The spot is perfect for Sunday breakfast around Union Square without the hassle of waiting for an hour. Yes, it's a diner but as far as diner food goes, it's good.
Great staff great food and atmosphere. You have to try their homemade fruit jam for your toast. My new fav place for breakfast all day
This place absolutely sucks! When I got to the place, it was not very busy. And, it didn't take me long to figure out why. I took a place at the bar, where I had a good view of the grill. The food preparation area was filthy. The grill was covered in way too much grease. The kitchen appliances, pots, pans, and utensils were all filthy. To make matters worse, the cook, as a matter of routine, handled the food items with bare hands. I saw the cook plate each and every omelette he made with bare hands. I will never go back to this place. The CA Health Department should shut this place down. Do not eat at this place.
Right place to get the American style breakfast! Thanks a lot for great experience!
The food was great but the service was quite slow
Good food. Sarcastic waitress. She was funny. Good prices. Italian sausage omelet was good.
I travel to San Fran once a year and I make sure to stop and get a short stack of Pancakes. The Olympic Flame is in essence a "greasy spoon" but is makes the best pancakes in SF!
One of my worse experiences in California ever. No greetings when I arrived, not even a quick smile. Waited 25 minutes to give my order, and another 30 minutes for my food. 1 waiter for 20+ guests, and she is still on her phone while people are waiting. When i got my food, the potatoes were sour and the eggs were not tasty at all. If the waiter would bother to ask me how the food was, I woudnt have to write my experience here. This is literally the worst experience I ever had to pay 30 dollars for.
A great place to eat, Breakfast or Lunch large portions!
Very good pancakes. Also not that crowded as the other places around.Food is good, and sittings is American diner style.Would recommend cleaning a bit, almost sat on a wet chair.
Good breakfast
Lovely staff and delicious food!
Walked in and was greeted by a seat yourself sign then sat for 30 minutes entirely ignored by staff, would rate the food but walked out due to sheer anger.
Old school diner. Nice vibe for brunch. I had chicken fried steak and eggs. Very good.
Love the service and biscuit and gravy.
The waitress was excellent. The breakfast food was exceptional. The portions are large and they don’t skimp on quality.
Great mimosas, great service... Great... Great price... The smallest raw jewels are... ALWAYS ... The best
For this price point, I don't think you can find similar quality anywhere near this area. Good, honest diner food. The food is much better than the better known diner options in the area
awesome staff!good food!great prices!
Looking for a greasy spoon restraunt, great prices, Amazing staff.. this is your place San Francisco. The owner Louie from Greece is actually the cook and came over and talk to us.Definitely a must!
Not a bad spot besides the fact they charge your credit card for more than your receipt states.
Today, we went to Olympic cafe to take our breakfast at 11am. The place was half full. We waited 20 minutes for the menus and after 30 minutes our order wasn't ready yet. Other tables were being served in front of us. The bad review goes to the waiter who was really unpolite and rude. When we asked if it was going to take longer she asked if we wanted to cancel and said she didn't have time to speak to us because she was too buzy doing something else. She also said "this is how america works". Obviously we decided not to stay and cancel our order. After 3 weeks of California and some other passages through america I'm sure this is not how america works as we have been really well served everywhere. I'm also sure bad waiters wont last too long and this is why we left her a tip :(
Greatest blueberries Pancakes in town!
I've been coming to this diner for over a year now, and I've never been disappointed. It's not the prettiest or fine dining, but the food is pretty damned good, especially for how cheap it is. I usually grab the hamburger patty and eggs with some coffee, and my check comes out to $11 and some change. Good luck finding food this good this cheap anywhere else. Oh and the owner/cook and the waitresses are always very friendly. Just go eat there lol.
2000. It's crazy, our first breakfast in San Francisco in the Olympic Flame Cafe. We were very hungry and in this great cafe we could not only get full, it tasted fantastic. Now that I see the pictures on Google, the gentleman could have been the cook even then. If yes, thank you for the great breakfast 17 years ago, I still remember very good!
Great breakfast diner, cheap, great food, excellent service.
A Diner that's not changed in many decades. The lady and gent have probably covered several of those decades themselves.. Overall we really liked the place, the food isn't fantastic but it's utterly edible, the coffee was great. Just a place that's from times gone by with decent prices with plenty of happy customers from what we could see..
The food (specifically pancakes and potatoes) looks unassuming but it was surprisingly good. Place has a retro diner vibe which I digged as well. Service wasn't the friendliest but it wasn't bad so fine by me.
Staff is terrible! We (2 people) waited almost 1 hour for our food. The place was only half full. After they started serving other tables that arrived after us, I politely asked for our food. The waiter just started being very aggressive and without explanation told us if we wanted to cancel since she didn’t want customers like us. After I asked to cancel and started leaving, she asked me for the money for the coffee (the only thing they brought us in almost an hour) and told me that is how America works. Definitely she was being xenophobic. Other customers at the next table said they were having terrible service also.
Good inexpensive Breakfast for about $10-12 in San Francisco is a great find. Ate there twice. Decor in a need of a upgrade. I was there for the food not how pretty is. Located in the Tenderloin District. Compared to Mel's a local diner chain of which location is nearby the Moscone center which cost $23 bacon eggs toast coffee and orange juice Olympic Flame stands out on price and comparable quality.
Nice breakfast, pan cakes outclass, each and every things is in good level of professionalism, chef is experienced and the lady is great customer service and she very nice , if you eat once , I say I’m sure you will go second time !Yesterday I heard that Olympic cafe management will change but I am not confirm it, so I will confirm it today or tomorrow and also check the taste again 😜
Update: The Cafe is open again and just as good as always. Old school diner with old school prices and a cool old cook making the tastiest breakfast. Sadly the Cafe is closed by order of the Dept. Of Health which sucks because it was always clean, it just hadn't been remodeled or updated and wasn't trendy like other dinners in the area are. Don't know what the future will be for The Olympic.
We visited San Francisco from Australia and where staying at the Handlery Hotel. We had breakfast at the Olympic daily, it was great service and we looked forward each morning to our big breakfast. It was a great start to our day and a special mention to the elderly gentleman featured in your Photos on your Web Site, he made the best Omelette of all time. We are heading back in the New Year (2019) and will be doing breakfast there daily again. We are hoping the gentlemen mentioned is still working their.
The food and service was awesome- prices are really reasonable- but they played the music way too loud. No one wants to be drowned out by loud music when they're trying to relax with a good meal. I actually liked the music that was playing- old 70s hits- but it was way too loud.
Greatest service, fast and affordable. Good food
